Helping Computers and Robots to Converse in English

Work in Iskandar, Malaysia for 1 or 2 years

There are three vacancies for graduates of English Language, Linguistics or a combination of the two, who would like to work in a new research institute at the southern tip of Malaysia, about 10 miles from Singapore. The Imagineering Institute opened early in 2015 and is led by its Director, Professor Adrian Cheok, who is also Professor of Pervasive Computing at City University, London.

The institute is located in Iskandar, near the city of Johor Bahru.

These positions would suit students who are completing their studies in the spring or summer of 2016. Absolutely no knowledge of computing, robotics or artificial intelligence is required.
Candidates must be able to cope well with tasks that involve detailed, meticulous work.
The successful candidates will be supporting a small team working on the enhancement of a software “chatbot” that has already won the prestigious Loebner Prize for human-computer conversation.

This is a joint project of Intelligent Toys Ltd, a London-based company, with the Imagineering Institute.
Malaysia has a very low cost of living compared to the UK. For example, the cost of renting a nice 3-bedroom apartment in Iskandar is approximately £300-£400 per month. Excellent international level remuneration is available for suitable candidates, and relocation allowance and air tickets will be provided.
